We tend to make the attainment of happiness more complicated than it is, by believing that we need things such as success, praise, status, looks or possessions to achieve it. The reality is that none of these things can give us lasting happiness and chasing them makes us prone to anxiety, frustration and disappointment.
This course looks at the bad habits we have and how to change them for habits that brings us health and lasting happiness. Many of our mental and physical habits cause us unhappiness. It seems we are forever caught up in a cycle of going to all the wrong places to try to make ourselves happy. We get into patterns of relying on small hits of happiness that bring discontent and turn into negative habits.
On this 4-week course, we look at how to build new habits by learning practical techniques that bring genuine happiness in daily life through the practice of meditation and Buddhist wisdom.
Gen Kelsang Dema is the principal teacher at Uma Kadampa Meditation Centre. Ordained since 1994, she has been a senior student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for over 30 years. She shows a humble, kind example as a practitioner and her clear explanations of Buddha’s teachings give us the confidence to practice the teachings and meditations in our daily life.
